Kuwait FM meets with US Gulf War veterans

Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah met late Friday with a number of US military veterans who took part in the Gulf War which led to the liberation of Kuwait from the Iraq aggressors. This meeting came on the sideline of Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled’s visit to Washington where he is participat­ing in the US-Kuwaiti Strategic Dialogue. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled thanked the US military for the efforts in liberating Kuwait, stressing that the American soldiers’ sacrifices will be forever remembered by the Kuwaiti leadership and people.

Meanwhile, CEO and President of the Desert Storm War Memorial Associatio­n Scott C. Stump said that the US troops were honored to have taken part in the war that resulted in the liberation Kuwait. He affirmed that a memorial will be unveiled soon to honor those who participat­ed in operation Desert Storm. The meeting was attended by senior officers and officials at Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry as well as members of the Kuwaiti diplomatic mission in Washington.

Arab diplomats

Earlier Friday, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled received heads of the Arab diplomatic missions based in Washington. The meeting, held on the fringes of Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled’s visit to the United States to co-chair the first Kuwait-US Strategic Dialogue with Secretary of State John Kerry, reviewed a range of regional and internatio­nal issues of common concern for the Arab countries and the US.

The meeting focused on the need to enhance the Arab-US joint action, serve the common interests, resolve regional crisis and combat terrorist. The Arab diplomats highly appreciate­d the audience with Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, saying it helped promote the intra-Arab coordinati­on and the Arab-US cooperatio­n.

The meeting gathered Kuwait Ambassador to the US Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Chief of Staff of Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled’s Office Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, and Minister Plenipoten­tiary and Assistant Foreign Minister for the Two Americas Affairs Rim Mohammad Al-Khaled, as well as a number of senior officials of the Foreign Ministry.

Also, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled met with Boeing Chief Executive Officer Lian Carti who briefed him about the group operations in Kuwait. It was attended by Ambassador Sheikh Salem, Sheikh Dr Ahmad Al-Nasser, Director General for Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) Sheikh Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and other officials. Furthermor­e, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled delivered a lecture at the Atlantic Council. The lecture dealt with the latest developmen­ts in the Middle East region and Kuwait’s views on various regional and internatio­nal issues.
