Kuwait launches fresh relief campaign for IDPs in Baghdad

The State of Kuwait has commenced a humanitari­an relief campaign purposed to extend aid to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. The latest aid is part of Kuwait’s humanitari­an efforts aiming at alleviatin­g the sufferings and woes of Iraqi people.

Kuwait’s mainly food aid has been handed out to IDPs at camps at Al-Durah area in Baghdad, in presence of Kuwaiti Ambassador to Iraq Salem Al-Zamanan. The ambassador said the relief campaign, which started today, is primarily intended to support Iraqi people and to ease out the humanitari­an sufferings of IDPs. He added that today’s aid came within the framework of continuing relief campaigns launched by Kuwait, including health, educationa­l and humanitari­an sectors. The ambassador noted that 21 Kuwait-funded schools were opened in most of Iraqi provinces. Meanwhile, United Iraqi Medical Society for Relief and Developmen­t Chairman for Distributi­on Ahmad Al-Heiti said today’s aid is part of a series of relief campaigns targeting the distributi­on of around 50,000 food baskets at IDP camps. Food baskets have been handed out to 520 families in southern Baghdad, he said, noting that it includes sugar, oil, tea, milk, legumes, canned fish and flour. Heiti voiced thanks and appreciati­on to the Kuwaiti government for this humanitari­an initiative which reflected Kuwait’s eagerness to help Iraqi people under such hard circumstan­ces.
