Al-Shihab, Reem Al-Zaabi win Kspeed Karting Championship
The first round of the Kspeed Karting Championship for this season was held at the Sirbb Circuit in Shuwaikh Industrial Area on Thursday. The participants were divided into three categories - youth (13- to 16-year-old boys), men (above 16) and women (all ages). An agreement was also signed between the Sirbb Circuit, Basel Salem Al-Sabah Motor Racing Club (BMRC), Historical, Vintage and Classic Cars Museum (HVCCM), Ministry of State for Youth Affairs (MSYA), and the Public Authority for Sports (PAS) to hold karting and other motorsports activities and championships.
The participants were able to register through the mobile app Sirbbcircuit or personally at the reception of Sirbb Circuit free of charge. Registration was open on a first-come-first-serve basis for 90 participants divided into 30 for each category from all nationalities, both professionals and amateurs. Ali Haidar, Marketing and Sales Manager of Sirbb Circuit, noted that the idea of bringing these authorities together is a new concept in Kuwait. “This great event was realized due to the efforts of Sheikh Ali Al-Fawaz AlSabah, Head of BMRC, and Abdulaziz Al-Yaseen, Director General of HVCCM, who came up with this idea,” he told Kuwait Times.
“We aimed through this cooperation to present useful activities for the youth, so they can practice their racing hobby in a safe environment, as we are applying the highest standards of safety measures at the circuit,” he added.
Mohammed Dashti, the representative of PAS, explained that international measures and standards were applied. “Even the different weights of participants were balanced by placing weights to karts of lighter participants. Also, the participants couldn’t choose the kart they drove, but were given the vehicles according to a draw,” he pointed out.
The race was judged by Nawaf Al-Safi, who also held the draw. Three winners from each category received cash prizes and certificates. The journalists covering the event had the opportunity to participate in a karting race. The winners: Men’s category: Abdullah Saleh Al-Shihab, Saud Abdulaziz Saud and Bandar Ali Ghneim
Women: Reem Al-Zaabi, Dalal Al-Zeid and Shahl Al-Hbeil.
Boys: Adel Al-Shuwei, Abdullah Al-Shuwei and Adel Ali Ghanem.
