‘Discover America Week’ underway
KUWAIT: The ‘Discover America Week’ (Oct 23-Nov 2, 2016) kicked off yesterday, with several activities related to the US to be held, ranging from food, basketball, film, education, an investor seminar, cars and more. The Discover America Week seeks to strengthen ties between the US and Kuwait.
“We are happy to launch Discover America for the fourth consecutive year,” US Embassy Press AttachÈ Heather E Ward told reporters yesterday at the US Embassy. “Many of the activities in the “Discover America’ event are the realization of our objective to strengthen our commercial, educational, tourism and business partnerships,” she said. “We have great and outstanding bonds between us,” she added.
US Embassy Commercial AttachÈ Jeff Hamilton said the Discover America Week is not only a promotion of the US’ great products and opportunities, but also a way of thanking everyone for their continued patronage of US products. “For example, Chevrolet has been in Kuwait for many years now. We have five generations of Kuwaitis believing in this brand and it is such a wonderful boost for us,” he said.
Other activities include the opening of a five-day intensive American Film Showcase Workshop, a collaboration between the US Embassy, the Ministry for Youth Affairs and Dar AlAthar Al-Islamiyyah (DAI). Two American film experts, Tim Sousken and David Glass, will lead participants through the steps to make a short film. “The program is part of the American Film Showcase person-toperson diplomacy connecting American film experts with foreign audiences,” he said.
Also part of the Discover America Week is a seminar on procurement opportunities at the Camp Arifjan US military base. Discover America will highlight iconic US fashion brands, food, film, music, education, business knowhow, and tourism. The 11-day event will take place at venues throughout Kuwait City, including The Avenues, Sultan Center, Kuwait Chamber of Commerce, Americani Cultural Center, AUK and other locations.
