GUST to launch cen­ter for teach­ing, learn­ing and re­search work­shops

Gulf University for Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy (GUST) an­nounced yes­ter­day, the up­com­ing launch of the Cen­ter for Teach­ing and Learn­ing Re­search (CTLR), next Sun­day Oc­to­ber 30th, un­der the spon­sor­ship of the Kuwait Foun­da­tion for the Ad­vance­ment of Sciences. The launch will be cel­e­brated with week-long math, sci­ence and tech­nol­ogy work­shops given in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the es­teemed Queen Ra­nia Teacher Acad­emy, Jor­dan.

The open­ing cer­e­mony will wel­come GUST Chair­man of the Board of Trustees, Pro­fes­sor Salem Al Tuhaih, GUST Pres­i­dent, Pro­fes­sor Don­ald Bates, Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion and Higher Ed­u­ca­tion Pro­fes­sor Bader Al-Essa, Un­der­sec­re­tary to the Min­is­ter of State for Youth Af­fairs, Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah, Di­rec­tor General of KFAS, Dr Ad­nan Ah­mad Shi­hab Eldin, as well as both pri­vate and pub­lic school ad­min­is­tra­tors, prin­ci­pals and teach­ers, Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion su­per­vi­sors, among oth­ers.

At­ten­dees will par­tic­i­pate in hands-on bilin­gual work­shops in math pre­sented by Queen Ra­nia Teacher Acad­emy, un­der such top­ics as Cal­cu­lus: Rate of Change & Func­tions by Dr Muad Al-Shiyyab, and Ge­om­e­try: Pla­tonic Solids by Ka­mal Lahlouh. At­ten­dees will also have the op­por­tu­nity to at­tend sci­ence work­shops focused on prob­lem based learn­ing, and tech­nol­ogy work­shops by Dr Mo­ham­mad Yas­sine from GUST, and Dr Nouf Al-Wadi from Washington, DC.

The pri­mary goal of the work­shops will be to help fa­cil­i­tate the im­ple­men­ta­tion of the new math and sci­ence cur­ric­ula by of­fer­ing pub­lic and pri­vate school teach­ers high qual­ity work­shops focused on those ar­eas, as well as the use of tech­nol­ogy. As part of the event, KFAS will an­nounce the up­com­ing launch of an on­line fo­rum, Us­tath Cafe, de­signed as a plat­form to sup­port math and sci­ence teach­ers across the coun­try.
