Crown Prince hon­ors Kuwaiti ath­letes

His High­ness Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ah­mad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah pa­tron­ized yes­ter­day a cer­e­mony to honor prom­i­nent Kuwaiti ath­letes for the 2014-2015 sports sea­son. The event is or­ga­nized by the Pub­lic Author­ity for Sport (PAS).

Upon ar­rival, His High­ness the Crown Prince was re­ceived by Min­is­ter of In­for­ma­tion and Min­is­ter of State for Youth Af­fairs Sheikh Sal­man Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hu­moud Al-Sabah, Chair­man and Di­rec­tor Gen­eral of the Pub­lic Author­ity for Sport Sheikh Ah­mad Al-Man­sour Al-Ah­mad AlSabah, the author­ity’s Deputy Chair­man Su­laiman Al-Ad­sani, Chair­man of Kuwait’s Olympic Com­mit­tee Sheikh Fa­had Jaber Al-Ali AlSabah, and other se­nior sports of­fi­cials.

In his open­ing speech at the event, His High­ness the Crown Prince ex­pressed the greet­ings of His High­ness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAh­mad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for all at­ten­dees. His High­ness Sheikh Nawaf said that His High­ness the Amir is strongly sup­port­ing Kuwaiti ath­letes and youth ac­tiv­i­ties.

Fur­ther de­vel­op­ment

His High­ness Sheikh Nawaf con­grat­u­lated the ath­letes for their achieve­ments, wish­ing them the best of luck in seiz­ing first places in up­com­ing re­gional and in­ter­na­tional com­pe­ti­tions. He also ad­vised them to boost their ef­forts to fur­ther de­velop their skills and unite in fac­ing dif­fi­cul­ties. His High­ness Sheikh Nawaf also praised the ef­forts of Min­is­ter of In­for­ma­tion and Min­is­ter of State for Youth Af­fairs Sheikh Sal­man Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hu­moud Al-Sabah, Chair­man and Di­rec­tor Gen­eral of the Pub­lic Author­ity for Sport Sheikh Ah­mad Al-Man­sour Al-Ah­mad AlSabah, Chair­man of Kuwait’s Olympic Com­mit­tee Sheikh Fa­had Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah and heads of sports fed­er­a­tions.

Mean­while, Sheikh Sal­man Al-Hu­moud con­grat­u­lated His High­ness the Amir Sheikh Sabah and His High­ness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf for the achieve­ments of Kuwaiti ath­letes. He also con­grat­u­lated all Kuwaitis for the coun­try’s dras­tic im­prove­ment on the ev­i­dence-based Com­mon­wealth’s Global Youth De­vel­op­ment In­dex (YDI), jump­ing to the 56th spot in 2016 from the 110th in the pre­vi­ous re­port is­sued in 2013. The min­is­ter also hailed the Olympic and Par­a­lympic achieve­ments in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil in 2016.

Key el­e­ment

The Kuwaiti lead­er­ship be­lieved that youth are the key el­e­ment in achiev­ing de­vel­op­ment in the coun­try, there­fore, it is con­tin­u­ously pro­vid­ing sup­port to boost the skills and tal­ents of this cat­e­gory of so­ci­ety. Sheikh Sal­man ex­pressed op­ti­mism that Kuwait would over­come the in­ter­na­tional ban on its sports ac­tiv­i­ties in the near­est time. The Cab­i­net has re­cently ap­proved a res­o­lu­tion to de­velop dif­fer­ent sec­tors of Kuwaiti sports, pre­sented by the author­ity, Sheikh Sal­man added. Speak­ing at the cer­e­mony, wheelchair race cham­pion Ah­mad Naqa AlMu­tairi praised His High­ness the Amir Sheikh Sabah and His High­ness Sheikh Nawaf for pro­vid­ing sup­port and fa­cil­i­ta­tions for Kuwaiti ath­letes. Mu­tairi, who won the race in the 15th Par­a­lympics tour­na­ment in Rio de Janeiro, also thanked Sheikh Sal­man Al-Hu­moud and the author­ity’s of­fi­cials for their ef­forts in the mat­ter.

He added that Kuwaiti ath­letes will work harder and do their best to bring more achieve­ments to Kuwait.

The cer­e­mony also in­cluded show­ing a doc­u­men­tary video on the achieve­ments of the ath­letes, fol­lowed by His High­ness the Crown Prince’s hon­or­ing of the ath­letes. — KUNA
