Crown Prince honors Kuwaiti athletes
His Highness Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah patronized yesterday a ceremony to honor prominent Kuwaiti athletes for the 2014-2015 sports season. The event is organized by the Public Authority for Sport (PAS).
Upon arrival, His Highness the Crown Prince was received by Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, Chairman and Director General of the Public Authority for Sport Sheikh Ahmad Al-Mansour Al-Ahmad AlSabah, the authority’s Deputy Chairman Sulaiman Al-Adsani, Chairman of Kuwait’s Olympic Committee Sheikh Fahad Jaber Al-Ali AlSabah, and other senior sports officials.
In his opening speech at the event, His Highness the Crown Prince expressed the greetings of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for all attendees. His Highness Sheikh Nawaf said that His Highness the Amir is strongly supporting Kuwaiti athletes and youth activities.
Further development
His Highness Sheikh Nawaf congratulated the athletes for their achievements, wishing them the best of luck in seizing first places in upcoming regional and international competitions. He also advised them to boost their efforts to further develop their skills and unite in facing difficulties. His Highness Sheikh Nawaf also praised the efforts of Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, Chairman and Director General of the Public Authority for Sport Sheikh Ahmad Al-Mansour Al-Ahmad AlSabah, Chairman of Kuwait’s Olympic Committee Sheikh Fahad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah and heads of sports federations.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf for the achievements of Kuwaiti athletes. He also congratulated all Kuwaitis for the country’s drastic improvement on the evidence-based Commonwealth’s Global Youth Development Index (YDI), jumping to the 56th spot in 2016 from the 110th in the previous report issued in 2013. The minister also hailed the Olympic and Paralympic achievements in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil in 2016.
Key element
The Kuwaiti leadership believed that youth are the key element in achieving development in the country, therefore, it is continuously providing support to boost the skills and talents of this category of society. Sheikh Salman expressed optimism that Kuwait would overcome the international ban on its sports activities in the nearest time. The Cabinet has recently approved a resolution to develop different sectors of Kuwaiti sports, presented by the authority, Sheikh Salman added. Speaking at the ceremony, wheelchair race champion Ahmad Naqa AlMutairi praised His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah and His Highness Sheikh Nawaf for providing support and facilitations for Kuwaiti athletes. Mutairi, who won the race in the 15th Paralympics tournament in Rio de Janeiro, also thanked Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud and the authority’s officials for their efforts in the matter.
He added that Kuwaiti athletes will work harder and do their best to bring more achievements to Kuwait.
The ceremony also included showing a documentary video on the achievements of the athletes, followed by His Highness the Crown Prince’s honoring of the athletes. — KUNA
