IWG hosts fa­mous Rus­sian fashion de­signer

The In­ter­na­tional Women’s Group (IWG) held its monthly meet­ing on Sun­day at the Crowne Plaza Ho­tel. Nar­jes Al-Shatti, Board Mem­ber of IWG, told Kuwait Times “We are in the sec­ond month of our cul­tural sea­son. To­day’s event is about fashion, where Elena, wife of the Rus­sian Am­bas­sador to Kuwait, in­vited Alexan­dre Vas­siliev, a pop­u­lar Rus­sian fashion de­signer. He will give a lec­ture about his ex­pe­ri­ence in fashion and tell our mem­bers about the his­tory of the in­dus­try, fab­rics, and tra­di­tional weav­ing.” She stated that Vas­siliev is go­ing to host a fashion show for the in­ter­na­tional women’s day in Kuwait soon.

Vas­siliev said “I’m a stage de­signer. This is my first visit to Kuwait but I have been teach­ing and per­form­ing in the Gulf area mainly in Dubai. I’m look­ing for­ward to know more about Kuwaiti de­signs.” Ad­ding “I have been in­vited by the Em­bassy of Rus­sia to talk about fashion sub­jects re­lated to the east since I worked in Turkey where I was stage de­signer at the Turk­ish Opera. I worked in many coun­tries as well such as China, Sin­ga­pore, and Ja­pan.” Vas­siliev re­vealed that he is go­ing to or­ga­nize an ex­hi­bi­tion about his­tor­i­cal fashion. “I’m a col­lec­tor and have 55000 his­tor­i­cal cloths in my col­lec­tion and would love to bring it to Kuwait,” he said.

Shatti noted that the paint­ing and cook­ing work­shops will be con­tin­ued in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Na­tional Coun­cil for Culture, Arts and Let­ters in Ab­du­laziz Hus­sein Cul­tural Cen­ter in Mishref, and the cook­ing classes at Ruby Tues­day. The IWG will also or­ga­nize this month’s sports ac­tiv­i­ties for its mem­bers at Al-Sha­heed Park.
