KUWAIT: Zain, the leading telecommunications company in Kuwait, announced that its volunteering team participated in a humanitarian visit to Syrian refugees and displaced families in Northern and Southern Lebanon as well as Beqaa Governorate. The trip came as part of Zain’s ongoing humanitarian strategic partnership with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society.

Zain participated in this humanitarian trip as part of its Corporate Sustainability and Social Responsibility strategy, under which comes its extended partnership with KRCS with the aim of enriching Zain’s contributions in various humanitarian and charitable efforts and initiatives inside and outside of Kuwait.

Zain’s team, consisting of employees who volunteered for this trip, traveled to Lebanon with an official KRCS delegation, through which they visited multiple KRCS-supported destinations to offer aid and support. The trip included a visit to the Lebanese Bakeries project where bread is baked and distributed to 1000 displaced families daily. The team also visited Dar Al Zahra Hospital, which specializes in prosthetic parts where aid is provided to injured individuals.

The trip also included a visit to Orange Nassau, a governmental hospital that specializes in Dialysis and offers treatment to refugees and displaced families on a daily basis. Additionally, the trip included a field visit to several camps where winter clothes and essentials were distributed to refugees and an entertainment event was held for children and families.

Zain’s volunteers also visited a water plant and distributed water to the families, and visited the thermal insulation project where they helped installing thermal insulators on tents in the refugee camps. The team also distributed aid relief kits on five different camps.

As part of Zain’s partnership with KRCS, the company recently donated KD 30,000 for a campaign that supports the education of underprivileged children in Kuwait. The educational support campaign aims to provide equal opportunities to educate children of low-income families who are unable to pay school tuition fees. Zain also recently launched awareness messages through SMS and social media to raise awareness about this campaign and inform the public of the available official donation channels.

KRCS launched a number of donation campaigns in Kuwait to support underprivileged families, children, people in need of healthcare, and others by providing expensive medical supplies and medicine, facilitating visits to hospitals, bearing the costs of school tuition fees, as well as securing essential food supplies.

KRCS also launched a range of initiatives and charity donation campaigns that aim at helping people in need outside of Kuwait by providing food and medical supplies to the most affected cases of violence in Palestine, Iraq, Yemen, as well as Syrian refuges in Jordan and Lebanon. Additionally, the society’s supports covers areas in Africa including Somalia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Djibouti and other east African countries with the aim of providing access to water, food, security and healthcare. Zain also partnered with KRCS and the Avenues to launch a charity initiative that supported disadvantaged children through the use of smart screens. The campaign aimed at encouraging mall visitors to donate a small amount of money to support disadvantaged children who are in need of immediate help because of war or natural disasters. Several digital smart screens were placed throughout the Avenues mall and used a creative solution to attract and encourage mall visitors to donate.

It is worth mentioning that Zain has previously been awarded with the Gold Award for Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility from the Arab Organization for Social Responsibility. The company spares no efforts in maintaining its social commitments and human spirit through multiple initiatives like supporting humanitarian aid campaigns during the past turmoil period, in which the company offered free calls and SMS services to Palestine for a whole week, in addition to providing the opportunity for its customers to donate by sending a free text message that is donated to humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. In addition, the company donated an amount of half a million US dollars that was earmarked for food and medical supplies for the needy.
