ICRC appreciative of Kuwait’s commitment in supporting humanitarian efforts in the region
On 22nd Nov 2016, the state of Kuwait has made a generous contribution to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to assist its efforts in responding to the dire humanitarian situation in the region.
The ICRC Head of Regional Delegation in Kuwait, Yahia Alibi, expressed his gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for Kuwait’s generosity. He stated that, “Kuwait’s commitment to support the ICRC in its efforts to respond to the continuously evolving humanitarian challenges in the region has helped alleviate the suffering of thousands of people affected by armed conflicts.”
Over the last few years and through regular donations, the State of Kuwait has become one of the most important ICRC donors. This highlights the ties and collaboration the ICRC has developed with the State of Kuwait and the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) to meet the needs of the most vulnerable people in the world.
The ICRC has been in Kuwait since the 1990-91 Gulf War. It focuses on humanitarian needs remaining from that war or arising from current armed conflicts and other situations of violence in the wider region. The regional delegation in Kuwait covers the six countries belonging to the Gulf Cooperation Council.
