KUWAIT:

Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) Dr Mohammad Al-Hashel underscored yesterday the government’s role in developing the nation’s banking sector. In a statement to the press after meeting with the heads of local banks, Hashel noted that the meeting is part of the banking sector’s efforts to continue stockpiling achievements and enhance its resilience to cope with economic challenges. Moreover, he spoke of CBK’s efforts to expand its financial and inspective prowess in order to preserve stability, adding that banks have to embrace the latest technologies to better serve society. On financial cooperation, Hashel added that banks have to work together to protect the needs of their clientele and to ensure persistent growth. The CBK Governor also urged local banks to introduce more measures that aim to maximize efficiency and skill through specialized training programs. Hashel also spoke of CBK’s open-door policy, where it seeks to facilitate interaction with other banks to discuss issues of mutual concern, which will prove beneficial to the banking sector and the national economy. —KUNA
