FGCCC con­nect­ing bloc’s economies

Chair­man of the Kuwait Cham­ber of Com­merce and In­dus­try (KCCI) Ali Mo­hammed Thu­nayan Al-Ghanim has stressed the vi­tal role of the Fed­er­a­tion of Cham­bers of the Gulf Co­op­er­a­tion Coun­cil (FGCCC) for con­nect­ing eco­nomic of the mem­ber states. Al-Ghanim, who is also FGCCC chair­man, said that the fed­er­a­tion plays a sig­nif­i­cant role in de­sign­ing the eco­nomic poli­cies on the Gulf, Arab and in­ter­na­tional scenes.

The re­marks were made on the side­lines of the FGCCC meet­ing in Doha, Qatar. The FGCCC’s role is also es­sen­tial for ac­ti­vat­ing and sup­port­ing the res­o­lu­tions taken by the GCC Supreme Coun­cil for fur­ther en­hanc­ing pan-GCC eco­nomic links and co­op­er­a­tion, he said. On the FGCCC meet­ing, he said that they had dis­cussed a mul­ti­tude of com­mon is­sues, fo­cus­ing on joint in­vest­ments and means of boost­ing trade among the mem­ber states.

Re­fer­ring to the Jus­tice Against Spon­sors of Ter­ror­ism Act (JASTA) re­cently passed by the US Congress, Al-Ghanim said that Kuwait had adopted dis­cussing it with the GCC eco­nomic lead­er­ships, to con­clude a vi­sion and sub­mit it to the FCGCCC sec­re­tar­iat. The meet­ing agreed to is­sue a state­ment on JASTA over the com­ing few days, he noted. Mean­while, un­der Kuwait’s pres­i­dency the FCGCCC will make fur­ther ef­forts to pro­mote eco­nomic and trade co­op­er­a­tion among the GCC mem­ber states. To­day’s dis­cus­sions also ad­dressed var­i­ous is­sues re­lated to the pri­vate sec­tor and FCGCC re­ports, in ad­di­tion to the fed­er­a­tion’s work pro­gram for 2017.
