Assistant Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information’s Press and Publications Department Khaled Al-Rashidi made the statement yesterday on the sidelines of the 11th Islamic Conference of Information Ministers in Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, held on December 19-22.

The preparatory meetings’ 11th Islamic Conference have focused on the role of the new media for supporting the Palestinian Cause, and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, he said.

The Kuwaiti media has always given priority to highlighting the cause, Rashidi said, referring to the three-volume “Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Encyclopedia” printed at the Ministry of Information earlier this year. During the preparatory meetings, Saudi Arabia submitted a draft resolution on the role of the media for combating terrorism, he said.

This is one of the major topics tabled for discussions, since terrorism has come to threaten the world’s stability, Rashidi added, rejecting all claims lining the phenomenon to Islam. Participants in the preparatory discussion also addressed Islamophobia, calling for setting mechanisms to counter the phenomenon and assert the real bright image of Islam, against distortion attempts, he said.
