Conference on rising violence opens today

The Arab Media Women Union (AMWN) is set to hold its inaugural conference today entitled, ‘Media and Violence.’ It is sponsored by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

Speaking yesterday, AMWN’s Chairperso­n Asmaa Habashi said that the conference, to be attended by Minister of Informatio­n and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, will feature discussion­s over how media can be used to stifle the rise in violence and promote harmonious co-existence. Moreover, she noted that the conference also includes a documentar­y that will chronicle recent achievemen­ts by the Arab Media Union, where a bevy of notable media personalit­ies will be honored.

On the conference, Habashi revealed that a series of panel discussion­s will be held to shed light on women’s rights and aspiration­s, as renowned Arab female media personalit­ies from 17 nations are expected to convene.

Meanwhile, AMWN’s Deputy Chairperso­n Rabaa Al-Jumaa said that as the host nation of the conference, Kuwait has proved to be a pioneer in the media world for years on end. She also noted that the conference will bring issues germane to women’s rights to the limelight, adding that women in the media world have proven themselves to be a force to be reckoned with.

On discussion­s to be held during the conference, Jumaa underscore­d that it will bring Arab women in the media world closer together, giving them an opportunit­y to share their know-how with each other. The AMWN Deputy Chairperso­n added that former Kuwaiti Minister of Informatio­n Mohammad Al-Sanousi will be a guest speaker, where the media icon will speak of his illustriou­s career and will also touch on the correlatio­n between media and violence.
