Conference on rising violence opens today
The Arab Media Women Union (AMWN) is set to hold its inaugural conference today entitled, ‘Media and Violence.’ It is sponsored by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
Speaking yesterday, AMWN’s Chairperson Asmaa Habashi said that the conference, to be attended by Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, will feature discussions over how media can be used to stifle the rise in violence and promote harmonious co-existence. Moreover, she noted that the conference also includes a documentary that will chronicle recent achievements by the Arab Media Union, where a bevy of notable media personalities will be honored.
On the conference, Habashi revealed that a series of panel discussions will be held to shed light on women’s rights and aspirations, as renowned Arab female media personalities from 17 nations are expected to convene.
Meanwhile, AMWN’s Deputy Chairperson Rabaa Al-Jumaa said that as the host nation of the conference, Kuwait has proved to be a pioneer in the media world for years on end. She also noted that the conference will bring issues germane to women’s rights to the limelight, adding that women in the media world have proven themselves to be a force to be reckoned with.
On discussions to be held during the conference, Jumaa underscored that it will bring Arab women in the media world closer together, giving them an opportunity to share their know-how with each other. The AMWN Deputy Chairperson added that former Kuwaiti Minister of Information Mohammad Al-Sanousi will be a guest speaker, where the media icon will speak of his illustrious career and will also touch on the correlation between media and violence.
