Thanks to ministers

- By Dr Nermin Al-Houti — Translated by Kuwait Times

It is impossible that there is nothing positive left in our society and ministries. We thank Allah that there are still some people among us who are optimistic and carry on with their jobs to develop and build a better Kuwait. Our article today sheds light on recent decisions made by the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Higher Education.

The first decision was issued by the new interior minister Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah to ‘ban publication and maintain secrecy of work at the interior ministry.’ It is a 100 percent positive decision, and should not be limited to the interior ministry alone. Rather, there should be an agreement between the interior, justice and information ministries, to receive an approval from the cabinet and propose a law to be passed in the National Assembly to ban publication of any criminal case that does not complete its legal and judicial process. Any media outlet, whether it is public, private or an individual should be punished if they publish anything about any case. This does not go against personal freedom, rather it helps preserve the society.

Meanwhile, I would like to express gratitude to the new Minister of Higher Education Dr Mohammad Al-Fares for his optimism towards reforming higher education. We laud the stand that he took when he ordered the payment of due payments to students of art institutions. Not only that, but he also ordered that every institution must have a closed bathroom for female employees and give them their own keys, and that for privacy reasons. He gave these immediate orders without waiting for complaints or investigations. We hope that with such a positive approach he will reform what is corrupted at supervisory and scientific posts.

This does not go against personal freedom, rather it helps preserve the society
