Airport thief arrested
KUWAIT:
Farwaniya detectives arrested a man responsible for multiple thefts committed at Kuwait International Airport. Investigations led detectives to identify an Egyptian man who had several phones and a tablet, in addition to cash with him at the time of his arrest. The man admitted that he stole small bags and emptied them in the bathroom. He also told police about shops where he sold the stolen material, and led officers to items he had not sold yet. He was sent to concerned authorities.
Passport renewal
The Interior Ministry’s Citizenship and Passports Department will stop issuance of old Kuwaiti passports from Jan 19 to 21, 2017. It said it will not accept passport renewal applications from Thursday, Jan 19, as the information technology department will carry out preliminary tests on issuing electronic passports, which requires a halt in the issuance of passports during the test period.
Unlicensed cafes
Kuwait Municipality’s public relations department said its Hawally branch carried out a campaign against unlicensed cafes in Hawally, resulting in the removal of 18 violations. Hawally branch Director Falah AlShimmari said the campaign was carried out on the instructions of Municipality Director General Ahmad Al-Manfouhi and direct follow-up by Deputy Director General for Hawally and Ahmadi Affairs Fahd Al-Otaibi.
Driver rescued
Wafra Fire Center responded to an accident that trapped a health minister’s driver in the vehicle along with a doctor and two nurses. The driver was taken to hospital by a medevac chopper.
No injuries
Jahra firefighters rushed to put out a tent fire in front of a house in the area yesterday. The fire was contained quickly to keep it from spreading. No injuries were reported.
