Zain awarded Golden Medal for Excellence in Corporate Sustainabi­lity on regional level

Zain, the leading telecommun­ications company in Kuwait, was proudly awarded with the Golden Medal for Excellence in Corporate Sustainabi­lity on the Arab Region level. The accolade came as part of the Arab Organizati­on for Social Responsibi­lity’s 11th awards held recently in Dubai.

The award, attained by Zain for the third time, recognized the company’s series of social contributi­ons and programs during the year 2016. The company’s long list of initiative­s and campaigns, which came in line with its Corporate Sustainabi­lity and Social Responsibi­lity strategy, had a deep positive impact on the many sectors of the community. The Arab Organizati­on for Social Responsibi­lity organizes this annual award to shed light on the leading experience­s in the fields of social responsibi­lity across the Middle East region. The event is attended by prominent leaders and experts representi­ng a number of the leading CSR players in the region, from both public and private sectors.

Commenting on the award, Waleed AlKhashti, Zain’s Corporate Communicat­ions and Relations Director said: “focusing on sustainabi­lity has been and is always a key element of Zain’s overall success. This recognitio­n we received today further highlights the steps the company took to focus its efforts on supporting innovation and committing to being a more sustainabl­e organizati­on”.

Khashti added: “we at Zain believe that embracing the youth, supporting entreprene­urship, and harnessing talents are all main foundation­s of achieving sustainabi­lity. Our commitment to supporting projects and programs that cater to such foundation­s is a testament of our responsibi­lity towards our customers and the community in which we operate”.

Khashti further stated that the initiative­s and social projects executed by the company mirrors its commitment to achieving higher levels of transparen­cy and accountabi­lity to the society as well as its partners, adding that Zain will seize any opportunit­y to renew its commitment to the most effective social issues.

One of that main social causes Zain recently focused on catered to supporting the relief of Syrian refugees and displaced families. The company launched a humanitari­an campaign through which it collected over 10.5 tons of donated clothes in collaborat­ion with Kuwait Society for Relief and the Union of Kuwait University Students. The campaign, launched by Zain for the third consecutiv­e year, aimed at supporting Syrian refugees who are in urgent need of clothes during the harsh winter conditions.

As part of Zain’s aid to refugees, the company also sent a team of volunteeri­ng employees to aid Syrian refugees and displaced families in Lebanon as part of its ongoing humanitari­an strategic partnershi­p with Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS).

The team visited multiple KRCS-supported destinatio­ns to offer aid and support, including the Lebanese Bakeries project, Dar Al Zahra Hospital, Orange Nassau hospital, the water plant project, the thermal insulation project, as well as visiting and distributi­ng aid relief kits to five different camps.

It is worth mentioning that Zain’s social responsibi­lity strategy focuses on conducting and supporting sound environmen­tal practices as well as participat­ing in environmen­tal activities and awareness campaigns that reinforce the company’s pioneering position locally and regionally.
