Zain awarded Golden Medal for Excellence in Corporate Sustainability on regional level
Awarded by the Arab Organization for Social Responsibility
Zain, the leading telecommunications company in Kuwait, was proudly awarded with the Golden Medal for Excellence in Corporate Sustainability on the Arab Region level. The accolade came as part of the Arab Organization for Social Responsibility’s 11th awards held recently in Dubai.
The award, attained by Zain for the third time, recognized the company’s series of social contributions and programs during the year 2016. The company’s long list of initiatives and campaigns, which came in line with its Corporate Sustainability and Social Responsibility strategy, had a deep positive impact on the many sectors of the community. The Arab Organization for Social Responsibility organizes this annual award to shed light on the leading experiences in the fields of social responsibility across the Middle East region. The event is attended by prominent leaders and experts representing a number of the leading CSR players in the region, from both public and private sectors.
Commenting on the award, Waleed AlKhashti, Zain’s Corporate Communications and Relations Director said: “focusing on sustainability has been and is always a key element of Zain’s overall success. This recognition we received today further highlights the steps the company took to focus its efforts on supporting innovation and committing to being a more sustainable organization”.
Khashti added: “we at Zain believe that embracing the youth, supporting entrepreneurship, and harnessing talents are all main foundations of achieving sustainability. Our commitment to supporting projects and programs that cater to such foundations is a testament of our responsibility towards our customers and the community in which we operate”.
Khashti further stated that the initiatives and social projects executed by the company mirrors its commitment to achieving higher levels of transparency and accountability to the society as well as its partners, adding that Zain will seize any opportunity to renew its commitment to the most effective social issues.
One of that main social causes Zain recently focused on catered to supporting the relief of Syrian refugees and displaced families. The company launched a humanitarian campaign through which it collected over 10.5 tons of donated clothes in collaboration with Kuwait Society for Relief and the Union of Kuwait University Students. The campaign, launched by Zain for the third consecutive year, aimed at supporting Syrian refugees who are in urgent need of clothes during the harsh winter conditions.
As part of Zain’s aid to refugees, the company also sent a team of volunteering employees to aid Syrian refugees and displaced families in Lebanon as part of its ongoing humanitarian strategic partnership with Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS).
The team visited multiple KRCS-supported destinations to offer aid and support, including the Lebanese Bakeries project, Dar Al Zahra Hospital, Orange Nassau hospital, the water plant project, the thermal insulation project, as well as visiting and distributing aid relief kits to five different camps.
It is worth mentioning that Zain’s social responsibility strategy focuses on conducting and supporting sound environmental practices as well as participating in environmental activities and awareness campaigns that reinforce the company’s pioneering position locally and regionally.
