Group concludes greening project at military base
Green Line Environmental Group Kuwait yesterday announced concluding the planting and greening project of the military base of the air force in cooperation with the army. “This is the biggest environmental project of its kind among Arab armies. It was done in two phases, and 4,000 saplings of various kinds that are resistant to the drastic desert weather were planted. This project was successfully carried out due to the support of Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, Armed Forces Chief Lt Gen Mohammed Al-Khudhr, Deputy Armed Forces Chief Lt Gen Abdullah Al-Nawaf Al-Sabah and other officers,” said Khalid Al-Hajiri, Head of Green Line.
This project should bring various environmental benefits. “This greenery project will halt sand encroachment and will eliminate the effects of sandstorms on the building and machines of the army. It will also gradually increase the number of trees that can eliminate sand encroachment,” he added.
After the project was completed, the armed forces held an award ceremony for Green Line activists and volunteers who executed the greening project of the air force base. Hajiri said Green Line considers this project as one of the major environmental projects in Kuwait for this year, and that this project is registered as a Kuwaiti armed forces achievement.
“We cooperated in this project with the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR), which opened its nurseries in order to participate in the greening of the base forces. We also appreciate the role of PAAAFR in previous greening projects of historical locations on Failaka Island and Subbiya to protect these precious locations from sand encroachment,” concluded Hajiri.
