Huawei to boost ICT skills of Kuwaiti Youth

-

Huawei Technologies Kuwait announced last Monday the signing of a historic Memorandum of Understanding (M0U) with the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs to advance the ICT skills of Kuwaiti youth as both parties share the common goal of helping the young generation succeed in a competitive environment. The MoU was signed by H.E. Sheikha Al-Zain Sabah Al-Naser Al-Sabah, Under Secretary of the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs of Kuwait, and Mohammad Diab, Managing Director - Sales and Business Development at Huawei Technologies, Kuwait, during a formal ceremony at the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs on Feb 6, 2017.

The agreement paves the way for closer collaboration between Huawei Technologies Kuwait, a Chinese, multinational telecommunications equipment and services provider and the fastest growing smartphone company in the world, and the Kuwaiti Government to boost ICT skills of students and open up new career opportunities for them. As part of the M0U, the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs and Huawei Technologies Kuwait will coordinate efforts around two of Huawei’s flagship CSR programs, ‘Seeds for the Future’ and the local Information and Communications Technology Training Center launched in Kuwait in Oct 2016.

Both programs reflect Huawei Technologies Kuwait’s long-term commitment to the country, where it has seen remarkable growth in the last years. It will be the very first time that local talents partake in Huawei Technologies Kuwait’s fully sponsored ‘Seeds for the Future’ program, first launched in 2008 and now rolled out internationally. The Ministry of State for Youth Affairs and Huawei Technologies Kuwait will jointly identify 15 exceptional young Kuwaiti talents from universities across the country to attend a two-week study trip to China, every year.

During the trip, the students immerse in the Chinese culture and language, learn first-hand about the latest cutting edge technologies and exchange knowledge in Huawei’s own technology labs in Shenzhen’s Headquarters. The Information and Communications Technology Training Center in Kuwait serves as a knowledge hub that provides free training programs to Kuwaiti students during a two-week period. By providing handson knowledge and professional Huawei Technologies Kuwait trainers, the newly established center aims at enabling youth to seek employment in the private sector, also in alignment with the government’s vision.

Commenting on the M0U, Mohammad Diab said: ‘Helping shape the future of youth is too important a responsibility for any partner to handle alone. That is why we are delighted to join efforts with the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs as a champion of the progress of the Kuwaiti youth. We are certain that this MoU will further enhance the collaborative ties that already exist between Huawei Technologies Kuwait and the Government of Kuwait and serve as an impetus for skills-building, knowledge transfers and career development.’ As part of its global responsibility program, Huawei remains committed to creating opportunities for Kuwaiti youth, and ultimately contributing to building a better connected world.
