‘Kuwait keen to safeguard relics’

-

SFAX: Kuwait attaches much attention to the protection and safeguarding of its historic sites and antiquities, said a Kuwaiti archaeologist yesterday. Several Kuwaiti relics have been put on the initial list of world heritage sites, Sheikha Farah Al-Sabah said on the sidelines of a lecture she delivered on Kuwait’s efforts to preserve cultural heritage.

The lecture is part of the Kuwaiti Cultural Week, which coincides with Tunisia’s celebrations marking “Sfax Capital of Arabic Culture for 2016.” Sheikha Farah said she had expounded on Kuwait’s rich historic relics, and cultural and architectural heritage, noting that recently discovered annuities date back thousand years and cover several historical eras. She added that Kuwait had also asked for putting more antiquities on the initial list of world heritage sites. Kuwaiti governmental and non-governmental agencies work together to protect and safeguard the country’s historic sites and relics, Sheikh Farah pointed out. Meanwhile, Kuwaiti Ambassador in Tunis Ali Al-Thufeiri lauded the vital role of Kuwaiti authorities, mainly museums and the Ministry of Information, in the promotion of Kuwaiti antiquities.

He hoped that more similar lectures would be delivered in the future in order to contribute to consolidating and cementing people-to-people relations.
