The ‘Angham Venus’

- By Dr Nermin Al-Houti —Translated by Kuwait Times

Previously, I wrote several columns about the beauty of the singer Angham’s performance and I named her ‘Angham Venus.’ Venus is said to be the god of storms and disorder for the Pharaohs. So the question is: what are the reasons that caused this change?

Before finding the reason, we must know that singer Angham has a reputation of always being late in many of her concerts, and this is not a fabrication, as we can see that she is not committed to the timing of her appearance. For example, when I attended one of Angham’s concerts, which was held at the ‘sound and light’ festival on Feb 25, 2016, she was late as usual, for more than two hours, and her fans did not complain, rather they sat patiently. When she finally appeared, she did not apologize for the delay. The question to singer Angham who has been on stage since her childhood, is that is it not a part of her laws and etiquettes to comply with the given time?

She came to Kuwait, her second country during its National Holidays, knowing that her concert was at the Opera House which carries the name of the ‘Amir of Hearts’ the late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The structure was opened just recently, which means that the fans are still not used to the entrances and exits of the place. In addition, the ‘Hala February’ festival was the first to be hosted by Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center, so it would have been better if she would have contributed in a beautiful image to the project of the monument that carries the name of the late Amir, and participate with Kuwait and its people in their National days with a good word, not words of frustration and anger towards Kuwait and its people, as reported by Arab newspapers. Thanks to “Angham Venus” for her congratulations for our National days.

Kuwait remains the source of Gulf culture, and those who established and instilled its culture are the pillars and founders of the Egyptian culture, and this favor will never be forgotten by the Kuwaiti people. Wishing Kuwait to be the beacon of Gulf culture every year.
