A number of contracted employees working at West Doha power plant staged a protest outside the Indian embassy yesterday to demand their unpaid salaries. Commenting on the issue, Abdullah Al-Motoutah, Acting Director of the Public Authority for Manpower, confirmed that the protest was because the employees’ salaries had been delayed. Motoutah added that the authority’s investigators rushed to the scene and advised the employees to check with relevant labor departments to get help in resolving their problems. Further, Motoutah stressed that all possible measures would be taken to protect the employees’ rights and pay them the overdue salaries, even if it means liquidating the financial guarantee deposited by the company.
