Minister highlights transport cooperatio­n with South Korea

KUWAIT: Kuwait and South Korea have been cooperatin­g in major transport project like the giant Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Causeway Project, and the two links of Doha and Subbiyah, and the Saad Al-Abdullah city, Minister of Public Works Abdurrahma­n Al-Muttawa said yesterday.

Muttawa made the statement to reporters during an inspection visit with the South Korean Minister of Land, Infrastruc­ture and Transport Hoin Kang to the vital Sheikh Jaber Causeway Project. The minister praised the Korean expertise and technology employed in these projects, expressing hope for further bilateral cooperatio­n. According to Muttawa, the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Causeway is scheduled to be accomplish­ed by 2018.

Meanwhile, Undersecre­tary of the Ministry of Public Works Eng Ahmad Al-Hassaan, said that the ministeria­l visit to the causeway project aimed to get acquainted with the rate of achievemen­t there, which has already hit 74 percent. Referring to the closure of Al-Ghazli Bridge, Al-Hassan said that it was necessary to complete the link with the main causeway. On the project of developing the Fifth Rind Road, the undersecre­tary said that they had started with the western part, where 15 percent of work has been accomplish­ed.

Housing

Separately, Minister of State for Housing Affairs and Services Yasser Abul said that the current visit to Kuwait by the South Korean Minister reflects the Koreans’ particular interest in Kuwait’s mega ventures. Minister Abul made the statement following an aerial tour with Hoin over site of South Saad Al-Abdullah City’s project.

Moreover the visit is in implementa­tion of agreements that had been signed by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to South Korea in May. He indicated that South Korea’s technical expertise might be employed in execution of the large project.

The minister also indicated that the planning and designing contract would be inked and feasibilit­y studies for the project would be worked out in the coming days; to be followed with setting up a joint company for execution. — KUNA
