KFAS signs MOU with ASHRAE Global Society
The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) global society. The purpose of the MoU is to promote the mutual benefits between the two parties in several areas of common interest.
The MoU was signed on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 by KFAS Director General Dr Adnan Shihab-Eldin and Dr Bjarne Olesen ASHRAE President-elect at KFAS’s head office. The ceremony was attended by many officials from the two sides in addition to several researchers from Kuwait University and members of ASHRAE Kuwait Chapter.
Dr Adnan Shihab-Eldin expressed the importance of this MoU in the promotion and dissemination of research as well as providing opportunities to finance joint research and facilitating periodic meetings with ASHRAE and attending scientific conferences as well as benefiting from the experts to enhance understanding for the deployment of modern technologies, in addition to promote joint research for the development of standards and policies related to energy conservation in buildings and educate decision-makers on these policies.
Dr Bjarne Olesen expressed his pleasure for signing the MoU, which encourages exploring opportunities for cooperation with KFAS to achieve the objectives and activities of mutual interest, such as developing curricula or training programs to benefit from the integrated experience between ASHRAE and local relevant institutions. The agreement also encourages the participation in technical committees and teams to develop policies and standards with the cooperation of the global network of ASHRAE Chapters to achieve common goals and objectives. In addition, the two parties will explore the possibility of the production of books and publications of mutual benefit along with the ability to translate ASHRAE publications to Arabic.
Founded in 1894, ASHRAE advances the arts and sciences of heating, ventilating, airconditioning and refrigeration to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world. ASHRAE is a diverse organization representing professionals who specialize in building systems and industrial processes with around 57,000 members from more than 132 countries, with Chapters all over the world, including Kuwait. The Kuwait Chapter, with around 130 members, offers many important scientific activities such as lectures and seminars specialized in energy conservation in buildings as well as studies related to air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation efficiency. Currently, the branch is keen to communicate with all the air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation companies to incorporate new related technologies to the State of Kuwait.
