ACK students participate in Engineers without Borders initiative in India
The Australian College of Kuwait’s (ACK) School of Engineering students participated in a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative at the Humanitarian Design Summit driven by Engineers without Borders (EWB) in India. The participation was in collaboration with ACK’s auspice partner the Central Queensland University (CQU), Australia.
EWB is based on a community centered approach within Australia and Asia using engineering knowledge and resources to bridge self-identified gaps in access to community health, wellbeing and opportunity. They focus on sustained engagement to build strong relationships and best practice models, strategically deploying people to achieve long-term impact through knowledge sharing and sector building.
This Summit was a two- week professional opportunity designed to provide ACK students with experience in developing skills, knowledge and appropriate engineering solutions. ACK students were given the chance to travel to India for this exquisite involvement.
Commenting on this trip, Dr Mohamed Gaith, Head of School of Engineering at ACK said: “I am very proud of our students with their participation in such an international activity, the sensation of the responsibility and positive attitude is extraordinary.”
Johanne Flynn, Manager of CQU international office at ACK commented: “ACK’s participation in interactive CSR initiative leverages and achieves overall development growth of student’s skills and knowledge as they are getting prepared for their upcoming professional career.”
Commenting on their experience ACK student, Talal Al-Dousari said: “The Summit showed me another side of the world and how with my engineering studies at ACK I can make a difference in someone’s life.” Meanwhile, Aya Chen said: “This was a great learning opportunity as it is my passion to be part of a humanitarian activity and engineering is a tool that will allow me to commit to help others.”
ACK is keen to provide its students similar international opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills gained from their engineering studies and empower them to apply practical learning concepts in order to create long-term change in developing communities.
