Doctor affirms family medicine’s necessity
Family medicine has proven quite instrumental in diagnosing illnesses in Kuwait and other countries for it partially aids individuals adopt healthy habits and life style, a Kuwaiti physician says. Dr Huda Al-Duwaisan, head of the primate health care faculty at Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization, says family medicine provides protective and initial care, in addition to early diagnosis for the patients.
Dr Duwaisan, herself specialized in family medicine, was speaking in a statement after she took part in the fourth edition of the World Organization of Family Doctors’ Conference, hosted by the UAE capital. This medical specialization provides best means to combat hereditary diseases and arrange shifting patients, who suffer from serious sickness, to specialists, she said.
Kuwait’s Medical Specialization Faculty of Primary Healthcare seeks to increase number of personnel serving in the family medicine sector because it treats a wide range of illnesses and conditions including hereditary, psychological illnesses-thus saving some money and time for the patients.
Some 30 percent of the medical staff in Kuwait work in the sector of primary care, says Dr Duwaisan. Elaborating, the Kuwaiti doctor said that she and her fellow conferees examined issues related to regional medical centers, namely Al-Abdullah AlAbdulhadi medical center, classified by the World Health Organization as one of the top centers of this medical domain in the Middle East.
This Kuwaiti center has trained physicians from 13 Arab countries on the family medicine. Dr Al-Duwaisan revealed Kuwait would host in March 2018 the fifth conference of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA). On sidelines of the WONCA’s conference in Abu Dhabi, the Kuwaiti delegation distributed booklets and displayed a documentary about Kuwaiti health, cultural and tourist landmarks.
