Durrar Toastmasters Club celebrates second anniversary
Durrar Toastmasters Club, Reggai, Kuwait, celebrated its second anniversary on January 28, 2017. The meeting was held at American University of Kuwait (AUK). It was a joint meeting with Durrar Gavels Club (a club where children between the ages of 12 to 18 years learn leadership and communication skills.
With a theme ‘Down the Memory Lane’ the meeting rekindled the happy memories of the members journey in Toastmasters. Durrar Toastmasters Club was chartered on January 22, 2015 for the people living in and around AlReggae in Kuwait. The club that started with 22 members and now it has 31 members at present.
In the short span of two years, the club has already made a name for itself amongst the Toastmasters fraternity in Kuwait winning prestigious distinguished club program (DCP) points and by adding many feathers to its cap in the form of ribbons, medals and educational achievements. Members from Durrar Toastmasters have made a mark in the Area and Division level competitions in Kuwait winning trophies.
The Club’s enthusiastic team, led by Vice President - Public Relations Suhaan Abdul Munaf compiled the Club’s second newsletter commemorating the celebrations. The souvenir, titled ‘Durrar Toast’ had ‘Reflections’ as its theme and contained contributions from the Executive Committee, members and members of the Durrar Gavel Club. The Mohammed Makhlouf, Program Quality Director - District 20 Toastmasters, released the souvenir. The Club’s second anniversary celebration was supported by Al-Mulla International Finance Company, Kuwait College of Science and Technology, Pediasure, Al-Hasawi Group and Infotech Training Institute. The grand celebrations had variety of speeches with Raj Dhanasekaran giving his graduation speech to become a Competent Communicator and R Sathyamurthy presenting a monodrama. The highlight of the evening were a laugh second humorous speech presented by Gav Milan on troubles of facing the exams. Gav Milan is the 2016 Gavels Humorous Speech Champion. Sunilkumar Singh, a mentor for many of the Durrar Toastmasters and Gaveliers, also treated the members and guests with a ‘Laughter Yoga Therapy.’
The Durrar Toastmasters club also organized the Club Contest on February 4, 2017 in American University of Kuwait. The Club Contest comprised of Table Topic Contest, Evaluation Contest, International Speech Contest and Humorous Speech Contest. Each contest was well set and well organized. In all seven contestants participated. R Sathyamurthy swept the contest winning the first place in all the four contests, while Toastmasters Aji Panicker (humorous speech), Baljit Singh (evaluation and table topics) and Mary Mathew (international speech) won the second prizes.
