Baseball Softball Championship concludes

The Baseball Softball Championship organized by Kuwait Baseball Softball Challenger league (KBSC) concluded yesterday at the Hunting and Equestrian Club’s baseball field with memorable plays and outstanding victories by the teams. Trophies and certificates were given to the winners.

“Eighteen teams participated in the baseball softball championship, with 211 players from different countries. Parents cheered the children in the under-15, under-13 and under-10 categories. The game seems easy, but actually it takes a lot of hard work to develop the children physi- cally and mentally,” Abdullah Marafi, Director of Youth Sports, told Kuwait Times.

“We are proud and especially grateful to be officiating yet another season of the great international pastime of baseball right here in Kuwait,” he said, adding that with every new season, they aim to improve the overall experience of members and represent Kuwait outside.

Marafi noted that many Kuwaitis do not know about the presence of baseball in Kuwait. “The first time I learnt about KBSC was through Google, when my son started to show interest in baseball. I then searched for a place to improve my son’s passion,” he said. Kuwait Baseball Softball Challenger League is a non-profit organization that has been in existence since 1980 and is chartered with Little League International in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The league runs from October to April. Its knowledgeable coaches are all volunteers who are very dedicated to make all players’ baseball experience great, and they provide the players with the opportunity to participate in an athletic environment structured to their abilities.

Boys and girls aged 4 to 17 are welcome. KBSC has regular baseball divisions, softball for girls and a challenger division for players with physical and/or developmental disabilities. KBSC (previously known as KLL) is the first league in the Middle East and Africa to have a challenger division.
