Indian Youth Society (IYS) held a memorable musical night last week to celebrate some of India’s famous erstwhile singers of yesteryears. The evening titled Phir Wohi Shaam (That evening once again) brought back nostalgic memories to the packed Salmiya Indian School Auditorium and audiences relished every moment of the two-andhalf hour program.

The evening began with Anis Ahmed, Director of SIMS welcoming the audience and setting the tone for an enjoyable evening to follow. The artists led by Paresh Pewekar and Minakshi wowed the audiences with some heart wrenching duets and solo numbers. Songs from Indian greats like Mohammed Rafi, Jagit Singh, Kishore Kumar, and Manna Dey were sung during the course of the evening recreating the musical atmosphere that the program promised. All the artists who have had illustrious careers behind them gave an outstanding performance including the saxophonist Suresh Yadav, who is among India’s most well-known instrumentalists.

Indian Ambassador Sunil Jain applauded the idea of holding such an evening by Indian Youth Society and hoped for more such programs in the future. In his address, President of Indian Youth Society Shabbir Qamar thanked the supporters of the program, Andrew Thomas, Vijay Kapoor, Rajpal Tyagi, Reaven D’Souza, Shamiak Soonawala and Mughal Mahal -for their efforts in making the program possible.
