Kuwait pledges $5 million for new fund to protect heritage in conflict zones

Representi­ng His Highness the Amir, Kuwaiti Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Informatio­n Minister Sheikh Mohammad Mubarak Al-Sabah announced yesterday Kuwait’s pledge of $5 million for a fresh fund for the protection of heritage in conflict zones.

The Kuwaiti minister made the announceme­nt during a conference held in the Louvre Museum in Paris, bringing together representa­tives and delegates from 40 countries, organizati­ons and entities. The gathering is mainly intended to give support to an emerging internatio­nal effort to protest cultural heritage in areas of conflict worldwide.

Addressing the conference, the Kuwaiti Minister stressed that the Gulf Country was keen on helping with this cause that was noble and worthy and merited attention especially for preserving cultural heritage for future generation­s.

He said he was “honored to represent His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah” at the conference, and voiced thanks to the organizers.

The Kuwaiti minister stressed the State of Kuwait’s keenness on providing all kinds of support and help to all efforts aiming at protecting heritage. He also lauded the joint efforts of France and United Arab Emirates (UAE) to create an internatio­nal alliance to protect threatened cultural heritage. — KUNA
