Minister of Public Works Abdulrahma­n AlMutawa signed yesterday a pair of contracts dealing with the constructi­on of a rainwater drainage network and road repairs, at a collective cost of KD 9.8 million ($32.17 million). The first project, worth KD 1 million, entails the overhaul of a rainwater drainage network in AlAhmadi and Mubarak AlKabeer governorat­es, where the system will be closely examined to detect any malfunctio­ns, a statement by the Ministry of Public Works noted. Moreover, the statement carried by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) yesterday added that the second contract, which costs KD 7.8 million, involves the repair of the sixth ring road, which includes bridges and overpasses Heavy rain over the weekend had flooded many streets south of the country, drawing state-wide condemnati­ons about state department­s’ level of readiness to handle cases of emergency.
