Drug smuggling attempt foiled

Kuwait Coastguard foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs into Kuwait via sea. The Coastguard Department had received informatio­n about a planned drug smuggling attempt, and detectives were able to confirm the data received. Two persons, Kuwaiti and Saudi, were identified and arrested red handed while trying to smuggle a bag containing 60 pieces of drugs. A sample of the drug was sent for testing to determine its contents. The suspects were sent to concerned authoritie­s for further action.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry also announced that central prison authoritie­s arrested two persons who attempted to smuggle contraband­s into the prison’s facility. One of the suspects had a mobile phone and a SIM which he attempted to smuggle for his jailed brother, while the other possessed a substance believed to be drugs.

Traffic campaigns

The traffic department carried out several campaigns last week during which 36,185 tickets were issued, 189 vehicles and 17 motorcycle­s were impounded, 71 people were arrested and three expats were deported.

Fire

Fire broke out in Ahmad Al-Humaidhi elementary school for boys yesterday morning. Jahra occupation­al center responded to an emergency call reported the fire, and managed to tackle the flames within minutes. No injuries were reported.
