Embassy warns Kuwaitis in France

Amir sends a cable of condolence

PARIS: The Kuwait Embassy in France has appealed to all nationals to be vigilant and careful after the shooting incident that occurred in the French capital Thursday night. The embassy advised the nationals in Paris to abide by instructio­ns of the French authoritie­s, and stay inside their houses, according to an embassy’s statement received by KUNA late Thursday. The statement said that the embassy is in constant contact with the French authoritie­s to follow up the developmen­ts of the incident, which killed a policeman and wounded another one.

The embassy urged citizens to call, in case of emergency, at the following number: 0033670673­834. The shooting, in which the assailant was also killed, took place on the Champs-Elysees shopping boulevard just days ahead of France’s presidenti­al election. France is witnessing a state of heightened security measures just days before the presidenti­al election due on Sunday. The country faced a series of terrorist attacks in the last two years.

Cable of condolence

Meanwhile, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah sent a cable of condolence­s to French President Francois Hollande following that the shooting attack on the Champs Elysees. In his message, His Highness the Amir strongly condemned the terrorist attack that claimed the life of a policeman and injured two others. He reaffirmed Kuwait’s denunciati­on of such a heinous act of terrorism that has nothing to do with the noble values of Islam and other faiths. He also expressed condolence­s for, and sympathy with, the leader, government and people of France as well as the family of the victim, and wished those injured quick recovery. His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak AlHamad Al-Sabah sent similar cables to President Hollande. — Agencies
