Duo sentenced to death in royal’s Salwa murder

Two-day weekend for nurses considered

KUWAIT: The criminal court yesterday sentenced two Iranians to death for murdering their sponsor, said security sources, noting that the two suspects had worked as cooks for the ruling family member they killed. The court also fined two citizens for selling the suspects an unlicensed firearm. The crime happened in November 2016 when the suspects shot dead their Kuwaiti sponsor, along with another Kuwaiti man and an Indonesian woman inside a Salwa apartment. The suspects had tied their victims before committing the crimes; after which they stole a large amount of cash from inside the apartment and escaped before police arrested them.

In other news, the court of cassation yesterday adjourned a hearing scheduled for yesterday to pass its verdict in the Abdali case, and set the next hearing on June 18, said security sources. The defendants in this case are facing charges of collaborat­ion with Iran and Hezbollah.

Two days off

Health Minister Dr Jamal Al-Harbi stressed that the Ministry of Health (MoH) shows great care for the nursing sector and that it is currently considerin­g nurses’ demands to get two weekly days off. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony held by Kuwait Nursing Associatio­n (KNA) to celebrate World Nursing Day, Harbi said that the two days off is currently applied with Kuwaiti nurses and that studies are in progress to include bedoon nurses. He also said he is keen on supporting bedoon nurses concerning pay hikes.

In addition, Harbi said many topics were discussed at the conference including improving nurses’ performanc­e and encouragin­g citizens to join the nursing sector by organizing regular visits to schools to highlight the importance of nursing and contact CSC to increase nurses’ salaries.

Used tires

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s (MoCI) commercial control and consumer protection inspection teams inspected Shuwaikh Industrial area and seized over 500 used tires ready for sale through some tire repair shops in the area, said informed sources, adding that inspectors also detected some spare parts that did not have any indication of the country of origin.
