Kerala speaker to attend KALA-Kuwait program
Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly Sreeramakrishnan will be the chief guest of ‘Mayookham 2017’ which will witness the inauguration of this year’s free Malayalam education program being organized by Kerala Art Lovers’ Association (KALA-Kuwait). The Malayalam education program for the year will be formally inaugurated by famous film-stage actor and author V K Sriraman. The Indian Embassy representative will also be participating in the public meeting, KALA-Kuwait officebearers informed during a press conference.
Around 2,500 people are expected to attend the event, which will be held on the premises of Qadsiya Sporting Club, Hawally on May 19, 2017. The programs will begin from 11am with selected, attractive art and cultural displays. The cultural meeting is scheduled to commence from 3 pm onwards, they said.
This year, the Ramesh Memorial Diaspora Award will be conferred on EM Kabeer, a noted social worker in Saudi Arabia. KALAKuwait will also launch a new initiative called ‘KALA-Film Society’ under the arts wing of the association on the same occasion. The society is being formed in order to generate awareness among the expat community in Kuwait about world cinema and create a positive film appreciation culture. The prizes for the winners of ‘Balakalamela’ arts competitions held on May 5, 2017 will also be distributed during the day-long event.
Malayalam playback singers Sudeep and Jayalakshmy along with their band of musicians will perform from 6pm onwards. The entry is open to all community members and dignitaries, media persons and well-wishers in addition to the KALA family members, the office-bearers informed.
KALA-Kuwait president Sugathakumar, General Secretary Saji Janardhanan, General Convenor Sam Pynummodu), Treasurer Ramesh Kannapuram and Media Secretary Jithin Prakash attended the press conference.
