Bahraini FM: Riyadh summits reflect GCC’s peace role
Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Khalifa said yesterday that the planned summits due in Riyadh during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia reflect the vital role by the GCC in maintaining regional and international peace and stability.
Addressing the 143rd meeting of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, Al-Khalifa, who is chairman of the current session of the GCC Ministerial Council, said this also manifests the GCC’s responsible positions and continuing efforts to address regional and world challenges and threats. He added that the GCC member states are also keen on deepening partnership and cooperation with effective and influential allies.
He noted that today’s meeting aims to make preparations for the 17th consultative meeting of the GCC leaders and the GCC-US summit due in Riyadh. During their meeting, the GCC foreign ministers will mainly discuss a set of reports bearing on the necessary implementation of previous Gulf resolutions and memos of understanding, he pointed out.
Also to be addressed are strategic dialogue between the GCC member states and several friendly countries and blocs, and the latest regional and international developments, the Bahraini foreign minister added.
Kuwaiti Acting Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad AlSabah is leading Kuwait’s delegation in the 143rd session of the GCC ministerial council. The Kuwaiti delegation includes Assistant Foreign Minister for the affairs of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister’s office Ambassador Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser AlMohammad Al-Sabah, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Riyadh Sheikh Thamer Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Assistant Foreign Minister for GCC Affairs Ambassador Nasser Al-Mezyen, along with other senior Foreign Ministry officials. — KUNA
