The mob among us

- By Ahmad Al-Sarraf —Translated by Kuwait Times

Several countries have strived to seek our satisfaction. Their representatives were sent to speak with us, not because of our historic importance, economic power, our influence in the world of finance, our population which is no more than one third of India’s population; not for our stock of ballistic missiles, our gold and silver reserves or for our oil which is not of much worth anymore. It is difficult to gain acceptance because the mob among us represent a significant danger against world peace.

The ignorant have caused confusion in Western stock markets and caused disturbance in the world’s security situation. Our actions are damaging our economy, tourism industry, and property. It is killing our men, ruining our children’s future, destroying hospitals and libraries and causing unmatched ferociousness in the form of people killing each other in Libya, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and elsewhere. We have reached a point where the enemy of our brother has become our friend, and vice-versa. Our students keep repeating, “we are one Arab nation” while on the other hand we ridicule our cousins.

Why did Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church visit our countries, while we killed his parishioners and did not respect what his church followers have given to our migrants as food, medication and shelter? How did we forget, this noble man washed the feet of the poor Arab immigrants who were kicked out of our countries without differentiating between Muslim and Christian? How does this man kiss the feet of poor immigrants while we kill the best of his church followers, enslave the women, displace children and burn what we could not steal?

What have we become to the world? Egyptians had lived with each other for centuries in peace, then few of us came to kill them, blow up their churches and burn worshipers alive in them. Syrians lived for more than a thousand years together; the Shiite with the Sunni, Kurdish with Alawites, Catholic with Druz, Orthodox with Assyrians, and then came those who destroyed their unity. Iraq’s various religions and sects lived and had intermarriage between each other without grudge or enmity. Suddenly, the black plague of Daesh (IS) came and divided neighborhoods, families, religions and sects. Then the president of the largest and richest country in the world makes his first visits to the region. Is it because we are that important to him, or because something must happen to get rid of all what we have done to the world and ourselves as well?

The little Daesh in our minds, will be forced out by the world, if we failed to do that ourselves. Measures have to be taken against violence in all its forms, and we should do something beneficial for the world before we die.
