Riyadh summits promote global peace, counterter­rorism: Amir

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said Sunday the three summits held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, would contribute to boosting global peace and tolerance, as well as fighting terrorism and extremism. His Highness the Amir, in a cable to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, said the outcome of a summit meeting between leaders of the Gulf Cooperatio­n Council (GCC) and the US would contribute to boosting internatio­nal peace and security. He said he was pleased with outcome of the Arab-Islamic-US summit, which would contribute to promoting internatio­nal cooperatio­n to spreading tolerance and peace, as well as fighting extremism and terrorism.

His Highness the Amir commended the ‘spirit of cooperatio­n and understand­ing’ among the GCC leaders in seventh consultati­ve summit. His Highness the Amir thanked King Salman for hosting the summits and wished the Saudi people further prosperity under his leadership.

Meanwhile, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled AlHamad Al-Sabah stated that the Arab-IslamicUS summit in Riyadh has sent a clear message to those prejudicin­g the tolerant, and moderate Islam. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled’s remarks were made in a statement on the sidelines of his participat­ion in the inaugurati­on of the Riyadhbase­d Moderation Center for Combatting Terrorism.

On His Highness the Amir’s meeting with the US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the summit, the Kuwaiti top diplomat clarified that the meeting focused on reviewing bilateral relations and cooperatio­n in various domains. He added that meeting also touched upon the latest developmen­ts in the region.

“It was a fruitful and mutually-beneficial summit,” he said. He noted that the consultati­ve Gulf Cooperatio­n Council summit in Riyadh Sunday addressed a slew of key issues relative to security, military, political, economic and investment cooperatio­n.

On the GCC-US summit, Sheikh Sabah AlKhaled pointed that the summit deliberate­d a long-term strategic partnershi­p between both sides. President Trump has reaffirmed the US commitment towards the security, stability and prosperity of the Gulf countries, he said, adding that the meeting also tackled bilateral cooperatio­n in various domains.

He added that they have also discussed the role of US and Gulf states in dealing with regional and internatio­nal crises of mutual interest. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said that the Gulf states and US have signed a memorandum of understand­ing on combatting terrorism finance and put up a similar memo for willing countries to join. — KUNA
