- By Hanan Al-Saadoun

KUWAIT: Three firefighters and two paramedics were injured after an elevator they were using fell in Khaitan. The team had responded to an emergency case located in an eighth floor apartment in a building in the area. They took the elevator down after they finished, but the elevator malfunctioned and collapsed. They were saved and rushed to Farwaniya Hospital for treatment. One firefighter was diagnosed with a dislocated knee, another with a meniscus tear and bruises in both knees, while the third sustained bruises across his body. Meanwhile, a paramedic sustained a broken right leg, while the other suffered a torn meniscus. A case was filed for investigations.

Separately, a fire broke out in a citizen’s house in Jabriya, said security sources, noting that on rushing to the scene, firemen discovered that the fire started in a second-floor room. The blaze was contained and no casualties were reported.

Municipality campaign

As part of Kuwait Municipality’s campaigns launched in preparation for Ramadan, Farwaniya municipality inspectors checked various foodstuff stores, warehouses and restaurants that resulted in arresting several roaming vendors, as well as confiscating and destroying four truckloads of foul vegetables and fruit that had been displayed for sale in the open and under the direct sun.
