Mayookham 2017,’ an impressive cultural show organized by KALA Kuwait, a variety of cultural programs and a musical show. Sreeramakrishnan, Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly formally inaugurated ‘Mayookham-2017’ at Qadsiya Sporting Club. In his address, he said today, Kerala is losing the cultural advantage it achieved following Renaissance movement and secularism is at stake in the face of growing religious and casteist tendencies.
Famous film-stage actor and cultural activist V K Sreeraman inaugurated KALA Kuwait’s pioneering ‘Free Malayalam Education program’ for this year. In his address he described that the language should be practiced skillfully and not through its complicated grammar. Sajeev M George presented a report on the language program schedule for the current year.
Representing Indian Embassy, S. Sibi, Second Secretary (Labor) delivered a distinguished address. KALA Kuwait Gen Secretary Saji Janardhanan welcomed the gathering while President G Sugathakumar presided over the function.
Sreeramakrishnan presented the annual Ramesh Diaspora Award to E.M Kabeer, a social activist chosen from Saudi Arabia. KALA Kuwait instituted the award for honoring individuals from the Gulf region in recognition of their contributions to the society.
Praseeth Karunakaran, Joint Secretary of KALA shared the cherished memories and described wonderful contributions of late E.K Nayanar. Thereafter V.K Sriraman launched the KALA-Film Society by releasing its logo. The prizes for the winners of literary competitions held by literary wing of KALA were distributed.
Mathews Varghese and John Mathew, industrialist and social activist, delivered felicitation speeches. Iqbal Kuttamangalam (Social Actvist and Mathrubhasha Samithi Convener), KALA Treasurer Ramesh Kannapuram, C.K Noushad, Vanithavedi, Kuwait, President Shantha R Nair, Progressive Professional Forum Gen Secretary Anil Kumar and Alwina Hanna Saji, Gen Secretary Balavedi witnessed the function. The prizes for the winners of Balakalamela were distributed. Gold medals for KALA Prathibha Rohit S Nair and KALA Thialakam Nanda Prasad were distributed by the Mathews Varghese, (Country ManagerBEC) followed by the Trophy to Overall winner for Gulf Indian School.
Mayookham-2017 started with the display of cultural art forms including dances, songs, skits and the dance items choreographed with the theme national integration. The programs concluded with a musical show led by Rajalakshmy and Sudeep.
