IWG holds Ghabqa

The Internatio­nal Women’s Group (IWG) held a Ghabqa to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan with the members of the Group at Crowne Plaza Hotel on Sunday. The group celebrates occasions all over the year, to introduce the cultures all over and give the opportunit­y to let its member know about Girgian, Ghabqa and Ramadan in Kuwait, as well as traditiona­l Kuwaiti food consumed during Ramadan.

During the event, former President of IWG, Elena Solomatina, the spouse of the Russian Ambassador to Kuwait said, “IWG spent more than 25 years of their lives to be what we are today.” She announced the end of the activities of the Internatio­nal Woman Group for this year where the members elect Dr Heba Barakat, wife of HE the Egyptian ambassador to be the new president of IWG.

The new president of the Internatio­nal Women Group, Dr. Barakat expressed her happiness to present IWG and appreciate­d the effort of the former president Elena “Elena organized a variety of workshops that introduced our members to many cultures. I accepted this position because she will be in my side, to put me and the rest of members in the right track,” she said.

Barakat asked all the IWG members to give ideas and suggestion­s to make the group great and shine up. For his part, Ambassador of Guyana to Kuwait, Shamir Ally thanked and honored former President of IWG Solomatina and Narjes Al-Shatti, Board Member of the Internatio­nal Women’s Group for their effort in creating IWG with their leadership skills.

The ambassador added “Me and My wife appreciate what you have done and still doing for all the IWG members who present different cultures and religions.”The event featured a fashion show by IWG members. Also Egyptian performanc­e “skirt dance,” which is an Egyptian tanoura traditiona­l dance and a belly dancing show by marionette a puppet controlled from above using strings.
