Panel mulls building more telecom towers

KUWAIT: The Municipal Council’s legal and financial committee will discuss the conditions of building telecommun­ication towers and mobile phone signal boosting stations in various areas during its meeting on Wednesday, head of the committee Ali Al-Mousa said. He added that telecommun­ication towers are important because they add more revenues to the state’s treasury and because they provide mobile phone users with better services.

Roaming vendors

Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled AlRoudhan contacted the Municipal Council concerning roaming vendors using truck and trail outlets. Roudhan stressed that the council was keen on supporting national economy through small projects that will help get rid of unemployme­nt and create more job opportunit­ies for youth away from office work and government jobs. Roudhan’s letter included some amendments he suggested to the project’s chart.

Charity violations

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor’s (MSAL) charity collection inspection teams reported filing 80 citation of charity collection violations through more than 300 field inspection rounds since the beginning of Ramadan, said informed sources, noting that all concerned charities had been contacted to immediatel­y remove the violations and take proper measures against violators. The sources added that violations included calling for donations through social media without getting MSAL approval or permission. The violations also included having unauthoriz­ed individual­s collect charities and building special booths to collect used clothes in various areas.

North Korea ban

The acting undersecre­tary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) Samira Al-Ghareeb issued a directive on banning the import of charcoal and some metals such as steel and gold from North Korea, as stipulated by the UN Security Council’s resolution number 2270/2016 pertaining with sanctions imposed on the Asian nation. The directive also bans licensing any Kuwaiti company to open branches in North Korea.

Flooding

Minister of Public Works (MPW) Abdul Rahman AlMutawa referred the contractor who built Mangaf and Sabahiya tunnel to public prosecutio­n for investigat­ions over last winter’s flooding incident.

Canadian University

Kuwait Municipali­ty agreed to allocate a 100,000 square meters land plot in Abu Hlaifa to build the Canadian University.
