35,000 grams of ‘chem­i­cal’ drug seized

Drugs Con­trol Gen­eral De­part­ment (DCGD) of­fi­cers found 35,000 grams of ‘chem­i­cal’; a vari­a­tion of ‘Spice’ (syn­thetic mar­i­juana) with added chem­i­cals, dur­ing an op­er­a­tion car­ried out yes­ter­day, the In­te­rior Min­istry an­nounced. Po­lice also seized some chem­i­cal ma­te­rial that is used in mak­ing the drugs. The to­tal value of the drugs seized is es­ti­mated at KD 700,000, the min­istry said.


A fam­ily con­sist­ing of one man, five women, two do­mes­tic helpers and four chil­dren were res­cued from a fire in their Oy­oun home. Jahra oc­cu­pa­tional and Jahra fire sta­tions re­sponded to a call about a fire that started in the ground floor of a three­storey build­ing. Res­i­dents were on the up­per floor and were res­cued us­ing fire lad­ders, as they suf­fered smoke in­hala­tion, while two fire­men com­plained of heat ex­haus­tion. They were taken to Jahra hos­pi­tal sep­a­rately, fire broke out in a bus on Mut­laa road near the 26th kilo­me­ter mark. Jahra fire sta­tion re­sponded and res­cued the trapped peo­ple, as five of them suf­fered from smoke in­hala­tion.

Res­i­dency de­tec­tives busted a gang that ran a fake do­mes­tic help of­fice and used it for vice ac­tiv­i­ties. De­tec­tives re­ceived in­for­ma­tion about two men, Arab and Asian, run­ning a bo­gus of­fice and us­ing women for il­le­gal ac­tiv­i­ties. Po­lice raided sev­eral apart­ments in Far­waniya where the two were ar­rested along with 41 Ethiopian women who were all in vi­o­la­tion of the res­i­dency law. Sep­a­rately, 28 vi­o­la­tors of res­i­dency law were ar­rested in a Mah­boula build­ing.
