KIB awarded ‘Distinctio­n in Social Responsibi­lity in Islamic Banking’

In recognitio­n of its achievemen­ts and efforts within the local community, Kuwait Internatio­nal Bank (KIB) recently received the ‘Distinctio­n in Social Responsibi­lity in Islamic Banking 2017’ award during the 2017 Social Responsibi­lity in Islamic Banks conference. The conference was organized by the Regional CSR Network and was held in Bahrain under the theme “Commitment­s of Islamic Banks Towards its Beneficiar­ies”. The conference took place under the patronage of Bahraini Minister of Finance, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa, and was attended by Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Associatio­n of Banks, Global Social Responsibi­lity Ambassador, Adnan Ahmed Yousif.

During the conference, Nawaf Najia, Manager of the Corporate Communicat­ions Unit at KIB, received this prestigiou­s award on behalf of the Bank. This latest accolade reflects the Bank’s strong commitment to the highest standards of social responsibi­lity, which has led it to continuous­ly contribute to charitable initiative­s, prioritize financial inclusion, as well as embed community-based initiative­s within the Bank’s operations. Additional­ly, KIB is keen on issuing a social responsibi­lity report and organizing a wide range of initiative­s and activities that serve all segments of the local community. The bank’s executive management has also put in place a clear and comprehens­ive social responsibi­lity policy.

The Regional CSR Network is part of the United Nations Global Compact, an independen­t internatio­nal advisory framework with offices in several countries across the globe. The network aims at spreading awareness regarding social responsibi­lity and encouragin­g its implementa­tion in both the public and private sector. Additional­ly, KIB’s training program titled ‘Social Responsibi­lity Specialist in Islamic Banks’ was launched during the conference.

Accordingl­y, several discussion­s focusing specifical­ly on social responsibi­lity in Islamic banking took place, including: the exchange of experience­s and standard practices, criteria for successful implementa­tion and the importance of social responsibi­lity in meeting the diverse needs of the community.

On this occasion, Najia expressed his delight at KIB winning yet another award, especially one that underscore­s the bank’s exceptiona­l success in several fields of Islamic banking, and in particular its outstandin­g efforts within the field of social responsibi­lity. Furthermor­e, he pointed out that every success achieved by KIB acts as a powerful motivator, propelling the bank towards many more successes and achievemen­ts in the future.

At the end, Najia noted that KIB continues to shine in the realm of social impact, as it provides ongoing financial and moral support for a number of key areas, including: youth, healthcare, sports, nationalis­m, humanitari­anism, religion and culture. Through its allencompa­ssing social responsibi­lity strategy, KIB has managed to garner a number of prestigiou­s awards throughout the years, setting it apart from other local Islamic banks as a leader within the banking sector.
