OIC official praises Kuwait’s humanitarian contributions
A senior official in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has commended Kuwait’s “exceptional” humanitarian contributions, as well as the “distinguished” humanitarian record of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at Arab and international levels.
Sheikh Dr Abdulaziz Al-Thani, Chairman of Board of Trustees of OIC’s Humanitarian Funds, said Kuwait has emerged as one of the world’s biggest humanitarian contributors. Al-Thani, speaking on occasion of the 3rd anniversary of the UN’s naming of His Highness the Amir a Humanitarian Leader, told KUNA in an interview that Kuwait earned the Humanitarian Center title. He attributed this to His Highness the Amir’s relentless endeavors to helping the people in need around the globe.
“His Highness the Amir of Kuwait planted in the hearts of the Kuwaiti people the spirit of social responsibility towards people suffering from crises,” he said. The UN title, he added, reaffirmed Kuwait’s leading humanitarian and philanthropic role at different levels. Kuwait, said Al-Thani, has extended its hands to all needy around the world, eager to help the people cope with the harsh living conditions and contribute to their development by, for example, eradication of illiteracy.
Al-Thani said the humanitarian action played a great role in the development of societies, and help them address ramifications of crises. He commended efforts of Dr Abdullah AlMaatouq, President of Kuwait-based International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO), during his tenure as UN Secretary General Special Humanitarian Envoy. Al-Maatouq, also Amiri Diwan Advisor, was honored by the OIC’s Humanitarian Funds at the end of his tenure.
