Ministry of State for Youth Affairs launches youth media forum

KUWAIT: The Ministry of State for Youth Affairs announced the launch of youth media forum, which aims to encourage and inform the youth. The forum is to run from September 13 to 15, 2017, at KIPCO tower in Kuwait City. The three-day forum focuses on encouragin­g young people to introduce creative and innovative ideas at the level of youth work in general and the media in particular, and open new horizons for Kuwaiti and Arab youth, said Nasser Al-Arfaj, Public relations and media director at the ministry of youth.

During his speech, Arfaj said that 17 countries will participat­e in the forum where media experts will hold seven workshops supported by Kuwait Journalist­s Associatio­n. “The workshop will be from morning till 5 pm. In the evening there will be an open discussion for youth in Arraya and JW Marriot hotels.”“We are going to focus on social media topics and put action plans where we aim to develop the right media idea for youth. The social media influencer­s are affecting young people in a negative way, sometimes encouragin­g extremist thoughts,” he said.

Arfaj announced that Ali Jaber, TV personalit­y and group director of MBC channel will attend the forum along with famous YouTubers from Arab countries. Adding that 80 young people will participat­e in the forum and workshops and 5 out of 7 workshops are already booked. Abeer Al-Omar, Group CSR Director of KIPCO said, “KIPCO is participat­ing as a strategic partner and is focusing on supporting the youth of Kuwait.” She thanked the Ministry of Youth for their effort in investing in human resources. Omar added, “We see this forum as an opportunit­y to deliver the right message to the youth who are affected by social media.” She expressed her happiness towards the cooperatio­n between private and public sector to benefit Kuwait. Mijbil Al-Ayoub, Director Corporate Communicat­ions of Ooredoo, said that Ooredoo believes in youth’s power that it will shine in the forum.

Adding, “Ooredoo has announced its strategic partnershi­p in the regional initiative Kuwait Capital of Arab Youth 2017, which has the endorsemen­t of the Arab League. Ooredoo’s commitment to enriching youth and supporting their passions where supporting youth is deep-rooted within the core values of Ooredoo. We hope to see more success in the future, and we look forward to bigger achievemen­ts.” Ayoub revealed that Ooredoo is not only supporting the event but also participat­ing in one of the workshops conducted by a social media expert.
