UN Gen­eral As­sem­bly ses­sion to dis­cuss se­cu­rity: Am­bas­sador

The 72nd ses­sion of the UN Gen­eral As­sem­bly next week will dis­cuss sev­eral se­cu­rity top­ics and other prom­i­nent re­gional and in­ter­na­tional is­sues, said Rep­re­sen­ta­tive of Kuwait to the UN Am­bas­sador Man­sour Al-Otaibi. The Kuwaiti del­e­ga­tion will be headed by His High­ness the Prime Min­is­ter Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Ha­mad AlSabah dur­ing the meet­ing on Septem­ber 20, Otaibi said yes­ter­day.

This ses­sion will see the par­tic­i­pa­tion of over 130 lead­ers and primes min­is­ters, said the am­bas­sador. He added that US Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump and UN Sec­re­tary Gen­eral An­to­nio Guter­res would hold a high-level meet­ing on re­forms in the UN. The ses­sion will fo­cus on the re­cent de­vel­op­ments in Syria, Ye­men, Pales­tine, and Iraq, while it will also dis­cuss the ris­ing ten­sion in the Korean Penin­sula and the at­tacks on Myan­mar’s Mus­lims, Am­bas­sador Otaibi noted. Other top­ics will in­clude coun­tert­er­ror­ism, achiev­ing the UN Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment Goals, and the pro­lif­er­a­tion of weapons of mass de­struc­tion, he said. Mean­while, he noted that the First Deputy Prime Min­is­ter and Min­is­ter of For­eign Af­fairs Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Ha­mad Al-Sabah will be meet­ings with other for­eign min­is­ters to dis­cuss boost­ing co­op­er­a­tion on top­ics in­cluded in the UN Se­cu­rity Coun­cil’s agenda. Kuwait is set to be a non-per­ma­nent mem­ber in the coun­cil for the term 2018-2019.
