UN General Assembly session to discuss security: Ambassador
The 72nd session of the UN General Assembly next week will discuss several security topics and other prominent regional and international issues, said Representative of Kuwait to the UN Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi. The Kuwaiti delegation will be headed by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad AlSabah during the meeting on September 20, Otaibi said yesterday.
This session will see the participation of over 130 leaders and primes ministers, said the ambassador. He added that US President Donald Trump and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres would hold a high-level meeting on reforms in the UN. The session will focus on the recent developments in Syria, Yemen, Palestine, and Iraq, while it will also discuss the rising tension in the Korean Peninsula and the attacks on Myanmar’s Muslims, Ambassador Otaibi noted. Other topics will include counterterrorism, achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, he said. Meanwhile, he noted that the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah will be meetings with other foreign ministers to discuss boosting cooperation on topics included in the UN Security Council’s agenda. Kuwait is set to be a non-permanent member in the council for the term 2018-2019.
