Plastic surgeon charged over medical error

KUWAIT: Detectives arrested an Egyptian plastic surgeon after a patient accused him of removing a part of her body during an operation performed at his private clinic. Investigat­ions later revealed that the same doctor had previously been arrested over similar charges. A female citizen went to a Hawally police station with a medical report stating that she suffered from dangerous complicati­ons due to a medical error. She explained that she went to a private clinic for a plastic surgery, but the doctor removed part of her abdomen, causing her complicati­ons that required her to be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). The doctor confirmed that he performed the operation. Investigat­ions are ongoing.

Massage parlor

Three people were arrested for running an unlicensed massage parlor. The suspects’ activity was discovered when patrolmen pulled over a bus with illegally tinted windows. Police grew even more suspicious when they noticed that the bus contained a bed and cosmetics, and they discovered two women inside. Police questioned the women who admitted that they offered massages to customers based on agreements made over social media. The Filipina women as well as the bus’ Bangladesh driver were arrested after they failed to produce a license for their activity, and police later discovered that they are in violation of residency regulation­s as well.

Food poisoning

Three police officers from Failaka police station were taken to Mubarak Hospital for food poisoning. The three became ill after eating food they personally brought with them to the station. The three were taken by medevac and were treated promptly. Medical reports were obtained for further action.

Jailbreak

A citizen sentenced to 10 years in jail over a blackmail case was able to escape while the appeals court was discussing his case. When the judge adjourned the case, the suspect reportedly slipped away from security and walked out of the courtroom by merging with the crowds without being noticed. The suspect is 34 years of age, worked as a car dealer and was convicted in several cases including blackmail and swindling. An investigat­ion was opened to determine the circumstan­ces behind the man’s escape, and to bring him under arrest.

Fugitives caught

Jahra detectives arrested a citizen sentenced to seven years in jail over two felonies, and discovered that he is also wanted on a civil case worth KD 300,000. The man was also charged with resisting arrest. The suspect was arrested at his home where police went with an arrest warrant, as they foiled his escape attempt. He was taken to the police station for further legal action. Separately, a Hawally detective was injured when a fugitive ran him over in Salmiya. The suspect was caught and taken to the detectives’ office and charged accordingl­y, while the policeman was taken to Mubarak Hospital.

Forgery

Residency detectives discovered a forged order to cancel the residency of an Arab man who was out of the country. Informatio­n indicated that an Arab man left Kuwait, but his residency permit was cancelled by the Ministry of Social Affairs report before six months had passed since his departure. Investigat­ions were carried out, and the residency affairs department employee was summoned. She said that she processed the transactio­n based on the social affairs ministry’s cancellati­on request. The case was sent to the public prosecutio­n for further action.
