-

Gulf Bank is pleased to announce registration for the ‘Gulf Bank 642 Marathon’ is now open. Register online at: www.gulfbank642marathon.com. The ‘Gulf Bank 642 Marathon’ will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 7:00 am. We hope to see you all again this year.

No other event enables participants to tour Kuwait’s beautiful landmarks in an atmosphere that is filled with energy and excitement. The event starts and ends at Souq Sharq, and the race route is on Gulf Road, passing by Souk Al-Mubarakiya, the Gulf Bank head office, the Grand Mosque, Al-Seif Palace, the National Assembly, Kuwait Towers, as well as other landmarks. We will again be coordinating with relevant authorities to close the roads to ensure the safety of the walkers and runners.

This event caters to all levels, from challenging athletes to beginners and even families, this includes four different distances/categories: Family Fun Walk/Run (5km); Souq Run for regular runners (10km); Half Marathon for more advanced runners (21km); and Kuwait’s only Full Marathon (42km).

Laila Al-Qatami, Assistant General Manager for Corporate Communications at Gulf Bank said: “We are thrilled to once again be working with our partners and friends at Pro-Vision Sports Management to bring you the 2017 edition of the ‘Gulf Bank 642 Marathon.’ Together with these young Kuwaiti entrepreneurs, we have created an event that puts Kuwait on the sporting map, as its only internationally certified marathon. Each year the marathon also supports a cause, this year it’s the Winter Emergency Campaign by UNHCR - The UN Refugee Agency, aimed at providing warmth to refugees during the winter season.”

Ahmed Al-Huzami, CEO of Pro-Vision Sports Management, added: “We had a fantastic event last year, with over 70 nationalities represented at the race. In fact, many dedicated marathoners came to Kuwait from the US, Europe, and the GCC, specifically to join the race. The ‘Gulf Bank 642 Marathon’ remains only road race in Kuwait to have three of its longer distance race categories accredited by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF Athletics), meaning that those races appear in the international calendar of races and serve as qualifying race for the major international marathons.”

Ahmed Al-Majed, Managing Partner of Pro Vision Sport Management, stated: “When we started this marathon in 2014, we had hoped it would become an international event in Kuwait. Since establishing our partnership with Gulf Bank in 2015, we have seen the event grown exponentially and we expect this year to continue that trend. We are committed to further growing the race and to raising awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. In fact, the number 642 represent the number of muscles in the human body, so join us on 18 November, and move those 642 muscles.”
