-

KUWAIT: In cooperation with leading sports clubs in Kuwait, and for participants to get ready for the ‘Gulf Bank 642 Marathon’, Gulf Bank and Pro-Vision Sports Management are organizing weekly training sessions to train the body’s 642 muscles, as a step closer to the big day. The weekly training sessions will be held in convenient locations and will start with Q8runclub, one of the largest running clubs in Kuwait, tomorrow (Monday, 16 October), at 7:30 pm in Salmiya in front of Babel Restaurant. Further details and updates on the weekly training sessions will be announced regularly through the marathon’s Instagram account @GulfBank642 and the rest of Gulf Bank’s social media channels.

The big event, the ‘Gulf Bank 642 Marathon’ will be held on Saturday, 18 November at 7 am starting and ending at Souq Sharq. The ‘Gulf Bank 642 Marathon’ is made for every individual who wants to experience a run, touring through the beautiful landmarks of Kuwait. This walk/run event caters to all levels, from challenging athletes to beginners and even families, this includes four different distances/categories: Family Fun Walk/Run (5KM); Souq Run for regular runners (10KM); Half Marathon for more advanced runners (21KM); and Kuwait’s only Full Marathon (42KM).

Each year the marathon also supports a cause; this year it reaffirms its support for UNHCR - The UN Refugee Agency, campaign #Voices4Refugees. This campaign asks for you to give your voice to refugees so that the world will hear their voices. By adding your voice, you will be calling for immediate and practical steps that can improve humanitarian access and the delivery of aid to those in in need inside Syria. Your voice will show that you stand with Syrian refugees and can bring hope back to the men, women, and children who have lost everything, through no fault of their women. Add your voice at: https://voices.unhcr.org

The ‘Gulf Bank 642 Marathon’ is the first road race in Kuwait to have three of its longer distance race categories accredited by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF Athletics), meaning that those races appear in the international calendar of races and serve as qualifying race for the major international marathons.
