Kuwait Disabled Sport Club continues making achievements
KUWAIT: Chairman of the Board of Kuwait Disabled Sports Club Shafi Al-Hajiri, lauded the support of Acting Director General of Public Authority for Sports (PAS) Dr Humoud Fulaiteh for teams and athletes for the club, which left a great influence on making unprecedented achievement, most important of which, taking third place in the international globally tournament for the blind which was held in Jordan, in addition to the two bronze medals in the international table tennis tournament in Thailand, that in addition to the Olympic gold that proceeded those. Al-Hajiri said this support materialized in having PAS provide all facilities for an outstanding preparation for athletes that in addition to easing procedures to participate in international events, which led to presenting a civilized image of the Kuwait disabled sports. He said, this policy being adopted by Dr Fulaiteh as a former athlete, knows close hand and aware of athletes requirements and needs.
He said Kuwait disabled sport is rich with talent that is able to continue making achievements, adding that the club administration is keen on carrying out a process of replacement in many technical and administrative areas and injecting new blood of young players in all teams of the club within an ambitious plan to raise the level of the disabled sports and be at par with developments at the international level.
He said the board of directors formed a committee of specialized technicians to carry out field visits to special needs school and select athletes from each sport, then they are examined by the medical committee and will be medically categorized according to the disability. They will then follow a program to polish their talent through camps and participating in tournaments.
Al-Hajiri said the board will focus on categorizing the sports disability for each game, out of the principle that it is not that every disabled is an athlete.
